Historic provenance and condition
This unrestored 1942 Stevens 520-30 Trench Gun WW2 1942 carries serial number 42269 and the visible wartime patina collectors prize. The receiver is stamped “520-30” and “US,” with “42269” on the wrist of the receiver, a “P” at the base of the barrel and an “M” under the trigger guard. Stevens manufacturing information and proof marks reading “Proof tested-12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch chamber” are present on the barrel. The gun has not been restored, shows slight loss of bluing, and retains original character.
Mechanical features and field relevance
This example is fully functioning and has been test fired. It is a slamfire-style military pump gun with the iconic heat shroud original to the gun — a defining visual and functional element for trench and riot configurations. The 12 gauge, 2 3/4″ chamber offers historically appropriate ballistics: substantial stopping power for close-quarters use, wide availability of modern 12-gauge components for safe testing, and clear compatibility with ammunition used historically in service trials.
Bayonet and accessories
The shotgun is fitted with a bayonet and scabbard. While the bayonet is not original to the shotgun, it is era-appropriate and carries “US” stamping consistent with period accessories. This pairing enhances display authenticity for museum-quality presentation or advanced collector holdings.
